BE Compassionate

A lawyer once asked “who is my neighbor?” Jesus responded with a parable in Luke 10: 30-37 that implicitly defines our “neighbor” as anyone who is in need, which means that there is no limit on who are neighbor may be – could even be our enemy – and on the kind of need that needs to be met – could be a physical, emotional, or spiritual need. In this parable, Jesus essentially calls his followers to “be compassionate lovers of people in need.” Why? Well, the implicit answer is so God can use us to love people into God’s kingdom. You see, some people need to experience God’s kingdom first before they will chose to enter it. May we then “be compassionate lovers of people in need who God uses to love people into God’s kingdom.”
